much nicer today, thought quite windy.
ok so lets talk about other things:
magazines, yeah yeah yeah who still actually READS things like that, well, seeing as I dont even own a cell phone---ME!
and yeah, I have a check book (yes I MAIL my bills in every month--not allowing companies to take money out of my bank every month on their own whim--nope, dont even like direct deposit--but thats another story).
so I have a subscription to a magazine. The subscription was ending, so I wrote out a check (last september), and put it into the postage paid envelope....months go by....my subscription ended (ok, I guess I should watch more closely) and the check didnt clear the bank (magazines usually take a while)....so TODAY in the mail--I got the postage paid envelope returned to ME SIX months after I mailed it!!!! Well this explains why I hadnt been getting my magazine, but 6 months to return it??? Now I have to stop the check (I think I may just put it someplace and make sure to note it in my book), and have missed 6 issues of the magazine and start a new subscription because the magazine got bought out by another company (who just doesnt seem to have a record to my having a subscription---I have had one since like 1990!). ARRGGHHH!
Just frustrating today, I mean seriously how can a company stay in business like that? Are they getting all their income from ads (well if no one is buying them then that isnt working), or what?
sigh

I have a subscription to a magazine as well. I usually browse it, but I don't read it cover to cover. You can usually find the same articles online...
Ya lost an hour of sleep... Not cool...
Well went North this weekend. Nailed down an apartment and got a new mattress and everything to go with it. Things are starting to fall into place. Next thing, get a job up there...

an apartment and a bed...well guess everything that is important is done (hope the job is in the pipeline....wouldnt want to have to drive hours to get to work especially if you are around chicago---and you arent used to 'rush hour').
The magazines I get are not ones you read all at one time--some of them are cooking ones, so loads of recipes (mark and use later), others are project type ones (knitting patterns, weaving patterns, etc so again mark and use later), and then my hubby gets some IT and electronics types (dont know if he reads them cover to cover, but those get tossed when the info is out of date--unlike the recipes and projects ones).
I dont like using stuff like that on line--I rather have the hard copy there in front of me so I can take it with me, recipes can be taken into the kitchen (and no I do not have a tablet computer, I have LAPTOPS or DESKTOPS), knitting patterns are more easy to mark as you go alone with a marker or sticker and again, taken where its needed.
Not to mention, my hard copies are always available--no batteries or power cords needed. I can take them with me everywhere and never have to worry about going thru say, security in the airport (or other places), dont have to put them in a separate bin when doing that....
and I dont have to worry about the websites going under or the info not being available again after the short time the online magazines are up (like decades later!)
and yes, I still buy BOOKS (need to do more reading though )
came down with a cold yesterday, so have spent this first nice weekend sneezing and getting some sleep.

I was only kidding. I love books and reading. I don't care quite as much about recipes but understand keeping them filed away. I have a Ipad that I used for recipes. Makes it so much easier to type "chicken" and pick one I want to have vs digging through stuff. They have an app called Paparika that is awesome. I love to cook but not all that organizing and such. :P

organized...hm....nope, no idea what that means. I DO like to collect things, so recipes are a easy fit for me---they are very collectible
and yeah, my husband does the same thing--goes to the computer before looking thru what we have collected. We have a few bookmarked, that we use a lot, and a few books that have pages marked as well (and a few favorite cookbooks that are used regularly).
We LOVE books, used to go to the library book sales and such, and yes, they are collectible too, so yep, got lots of them as well ---though we only collect specific genres....like science fiction and fantasy (though I have yet to buy the harry potter books and probably wont). Its sad that books are not as popular as they once were, I used to spend hours in the book store looking (and buying) new titles, now, there is only ONE bookstore around here, and there titles are very few and not many new ones at all
I guess kids would rather spend time on their cell phones than read a book.....

In Japan bookstores are everywhere. Loved it there. Seriously all over the place. Used and new. Even places you can pay to spend the night with manga and you get a private room - many include drinks and snacks for pretty cheap prices.
I agree it is sad they have disappeared quite a bit in the US. We have a few around in our area still but not as many as there used to be. Amazon and other online shops kinda killed that off sadly. I'd much rather have a book than use electronic stuff but I have some on Kindle. Just because I got them cheaper than the actual books.
I do still have quite a few cookbooks. I like those too. I have some friends that are major into cooking and they have collections of all the older cookbooks.

yep yep....even though my japanese is mazui I still could spend hours in a bookstore there (and did)....have a full collection of books on japanese castles---- (and yes my kana is improving).
I love to wander aisles of books, I can still spend quite some time in any book store (new or used), and would LOVE to get back out to powells in Portland (oregon)....a full city block of books! (the last time I was there the cookbook store and text book store were in a different location from the main one...so that would be 3 book stores of books).
I will always take a paper book over an electronic one, never have to worry about its batteries, your 'subscription' expiring, etc...only have to worry if you have enough light (and not get it wet--but that applies for the electronic ones as well---)
I have a good collection of cookbooks, books on bread, chinese cooking, japanese cooking, italian cooking....old swedish cookbooks, and yes, COOOOKKKKKIIIIEEEESSS! and every year I get a few annual christmas cookie magazines (think one is gone now...couldnt find it the last 2 years...) and I have more than run out of bookshelves for that collection as well (and general space in my dinning area/office).
and in weather news...it was almost 50 yesterday yes, FIVE OH....the snow on my balcony is almost completely gone and the ice on the driveways is as well...ok, the roof is still melting onto it and it did get cold last night, but we are supposed to stay above freezing at night for a few more days--should have the rest of the snow on the roof melted and then the ice on the driveway will be gone as well!
SPRING IS HERE (sorry snowman).

Oh hi... Been super busy the past couple days... I too love bookstores. Wish we had more of them around here. I could wander for hours in them!
60 today! So nice! I actually have the windows open right now, to try to air out the apartment. Awesome! Hope it stays!

sorry to hear that, but it should be around for a while now--so the weekend looks good for more warm weather enjoyment!
had the balcony door open today (a wee bit cool, but compared to what we have had, quite warm!)....and was able to get a nice long nap in too, perhaps the fresh air is what I needed to sleep better.

We are started on gardens and such here now. Been very nice out temp wise - but dark, gloomy and wet! Someone was joking about our weather turning into the Northwest. haha

We hit almost 70 yesterday. Supposed to be mid-60's again today, so yay on that note! And my wife is in town, so yay again! Been very nice, though I think we got a bit of rain last night. I'm sure we will get more in the next couple days now that I washed my car this morning... Oh well. It needed to be done.

glad you got to spend some time together during our wonderfully beautiful weekend!
guess we were due for our good weather!
and the spring cleaning bug is in the air--time to wash all the sweaters and put them away.
and yes, had the door open and got a much better nap in with the old stale air gone.

Supposed to be 77 today! Woo! That is a nice big plus on that. Glad it is warm.
Yup going to be able to open up today. Will do that in the afternoon when it warms up. Definitely been great to have the windows open lately.
